What I really like is that not only did this man pay his dues, he was very strategic in his actions. He knew that business is relationships. Amazingly this is something that I taught my children and do still teach my students. I'd only add one thing to this: we as teachers, mentors and parents have to help those who depend on us understand this as a good thing - as a great creative process that is going to get them where they want to go and not as a grimly borne punishment - or worse, failure. When you pay your dues they go into your account too. I really loved hearing this. Thanks. Superb advice, Christopher.
